Marcílio Marques Moreira is currently a Principal at the Consulting firm Conjuntura e Contexto, and member of the boards of American Bank Note Co. of Brazil, and ENERGISA. Chairman of the Advisory Board of ETCO (Institute on the Ethics of Corporate Competition), and Vice-Chairman of the Board of INAE - Forum Nacional.
Prior to that his carreer has spanned the international, government, and private sector. He started his carreer in the Brazilian Foreign Service, where he held diverse positions, including Brazilian Ambassador to the United States. Within government service he has been Minister of the Economy, Finance and Planning, Special Advisor to the Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Chairman of the President's Commission on Public Ethics. He has also held positions in BNDES (National Development Bank of Brazil), where he eventually became a member of the Board.
In the private sector, he was Executive Vice-President and Member of the Board of Directors of Unibanco, and Senior International Advisor to Merrill Lynch & Co., President, Rio de Janeiro Chamber of Commerce. He has been on the boards of many companies in Brazil, including, Brasilpar (Private Equity Co.), PREVER (Private Pension Fund), NOVOTEL, Coca-Cola, RJ Reynolds, Hoechst, EMBRATEL, Casas Sendas, Marsh&McLennan Group, as well as IBM-Latin America and GE-South America.
Additionally, he is presently a board member of various non-profit organizations, among them are Fundação Getúlio Vargas, the Economic Committee of the Archidiocese of Rio de Janeiro, Associação Comercial do Rio de Janeiro, and Pró-Criança Cardíaca. He is also a member of the Pen Club and the Rotary Club of Rio de Janeiro.
He graduated from Instituto Rio Branco (Brazil's Diplomatic Academy) in 1954, and holds an LLB from the State University of Rio de Janeiro Law School (1954) and an M.A. in Political Science from Georgetown University (1963). He has also been a professor at Instituto Rio Branco and the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ).
